United States Marine Corps. Sgt. Shamar Thomas from Roosevelt, NY went toe to toe with the New York Police Department. An activist in the Occupy Wall Street movement, Thomas voiced his opinions of the NYPD police brutality that had and has been plaguing the #OWS movement.

Thomas is a 24-year-old Marine Veteran (2 tours in Iraq), he currently plays amateur football and is in college.

This is powerful. I was totally in his corner until he kept emphasizing that “these are US citizens!” and said “If you want to hurt and kill people, go to Iraq!” My status as a US citizen shouldn’t be the reason I don’t deserve to be mistreated by police.  My status as a human being—even more so, as a living creature, should be reason enough. The people in Iraq and Afghanistan were not put on this Earth to be hurt or killed any more than we were. Still, very powerful. And I’m glad he took a stand.
